Ontario, CA

SERVICE LINE: Snyder Langston

The North American Logistics Center (NALC) was designed by Snyder Langston to reflect Toyota’s interest in quality and beauty both in the architecture and site amenities. The facility totals 760,000 s.f., including: administration offices, regional teleconferencing center, distribution, and a full-service cafeteria. The surrounding 94-acre site is landscaped with decorative colored stone, olive trees, and traditional Japanese flora.

Given our comprehensive knowledge of the project and costs associated with being part of the California Commerce Center Assessment District, we concluded that the City of Ontario needed to participate for this project to be able to continue. Since the land was located within a redevelopment project area, Snyder Langston negotiated with the City Manager and Redevelopment Director.

Negotiations resulted in a ‘jobs for dollars’ program which granted Toyota $3.9 million in credits. In exchange, Toyota agreed to maintain a prescribed employee count for a period of 10 years.

Additionally, modifications to site improvements, landscaping requirements and building criteria were negotiated with the City, resulting in additional cost savings of $2 million. This was achieved without compromising the specific plan.
